Los Angeles is a big city with a distinctly urban lifestyle characterised by Hollywood, sun and surfing, but also by a very active cultural life that has gained the attention of the wider world of art.

We have taken the pulse of the art scene in a close dialogue with the local arts and culture community, and in this comprehensive exhibition we are highlighting elements that epitomise the artistic life of this Californian city. This includes a broad-based view of urbanism, lifestyle, music, film, literature and contemporary art. The exhibition will present the LA art scene transgenerationally, from the young and youngest up-and-coming artists to their well-established predecessors.

A team of curators with varied experience and knowledge about Los Angeles will join in creating a broad presentation of the LA art scene, which will be shown at the Astrup Fearnley Museet in the autumn of 2016.

The exhibition is co-curated by Gunnar B. Kvaran (Astrup Fearnley Museet), Thierry Raspail (Lyon Museum of Contemporary Art) and Nicolas Garait.

The exhibition advisory boards includes Ali Subotnick (Hammer Museum), Alex Israel (artist) and Hans Ulrich Obrist (Serpentine Galleries).
